Dr. Barbara Brasted-Maki

Dr. Barbara first said, “I want to be a veterinarian” when she was eleven years old. She never deviated from that career path, graduating from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. After a stint on the East Coast, Dr. Barbara and her family moved to Eugene, where she has been practicing veterinary medicine since 2005. Dr. Barbara is proficient in all areas of general small animal medicine and surgery. She sees many dermatology and chronic illness cases and loves bonding with patients and their people over time to truly make a difference in their lives. On a personal level, practicing veterinary medicine is a wonderful career because not a month goes by without the opportunity to learn something new. When not working, Dr. Barbara can usually be found hanging out at home with her husband and two daughters plus assorted rescue dogs, cats, chickens, and ducks. She loves to cook and garden and do crafty stuff, but also has a much louder side. As a member of Eugene Taiko, she performs and teaches Japanese drumming; as equipment manager she has found a true avocation in building and repairing taiko drums. Dr. Barbara is thrilled to be joining the staff at Santa Clara Animal Hospital.
